Fellowship Training in Shoulder & Elbow Reconstruction

After completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at Riverside University Health System, a Level I Trauma Center in Southern California, Dr. Michelin pursued advanced fellowship training in Adult Shoulder and Elbow Reconstruction at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles.

During his fellowship, he trained alongside nationally recognized leaders in shoulder and elbow surgery, including Dr. John Itamura, while also assisting with team coverage for the Los Angeles Angels organization. Today, Dr. Michelin is among a select group of surgeons in Southern Nevada who have completed an American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons accredited fellowship, bringing highly specialized expertise to patients throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Did You Know?

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Dr. Michelin comes from a family deeply rooted in the community. He graduated from Sierra Vista High School before playing collegiate baseball and earning his degree in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.

Away from the office, he enjoys pickleball, cycling, working out, baseball, and playing the drums. Most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Holly, and their growing family.

Meet Dr. Michelin

Dr. Richard Michelin is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow reconstruction, sports medicine, fracture care, arthroscopy, joint replacement, and revision surgery.

A proud Las Vegas native, Dr. Michelin graduated from Sierra Vista High School before attending California Lutheran University, where he played collegiate baseball and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. He went on to receive his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree with honors from Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Riverside University Health System, a respected Level I Trauma Center and county teaching hospital in California. During residency, he served as a team physician for multiple sports programs at the University of California Riverside and California Baptist University.

Seeking additional specialization, Dr. Michelin completed an Adult Shoulder and Elbow Reconstruction Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles. There, he trained under nationally recognized shoulder surgeons, participated in care for Los Angeles Angels athletes, and gained advanced expertise in arthroscopic procedures, joint preservation, shoulder replacement, fracture management, and complex revision surgery.

Dr. Michelin is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He was honored as the 2021 Osteopathic Orthopaedic Surgery Resident of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation and received the 2022 Young Investigator Award from the Western Orthopaedic Association for his research contributions.
